Built during the 1950s to be compatible with 35mm Mitchell BNCR cameras, these classic Hollywood cinema lenses were a staple of the era and were used to shoot film classics, such as The Godfather and The Birds. Unlike today’s extremely sharp, highly corrected lenses, the Bausch and Lomb Super Baltar lenses can give your project a classic and distinct retro look. With warm, low contrasts and unique flare characteristics, these lenses are perfect for creating vintage visuals. A TLS rehouse makes our lenses easier to work with for the assistant. A standardized 110mm front diameter, large focus rings with extended focus markings, consistent placement of focus, and iris gear throughout the range, with the exception of the longer body of the 152mm.
These are probably the best lenses for digital sensors and render skin beautifully. The lenses have their iconic blue/purple coatings which result in images that are warm in tone and flares are a beautiful blue or purple depending on your white balance and light source. It’s a special contrast, which is not low con or washed out, but instead very smooth and beautiful. They are sharp on center, even wide open, have medium contrast, and have softer edges than modern lenses. Wide open, they have beautiful textured bokeh.
